William Yarbrough | Early Life 

Yarbrough (fully named William Paul Yarbrough Story) was born on March 20, 1989, under Pisces’ sun sign. Apparently, he was born in Aguascalientes, Mexico, to his American parents. 

To illustrate, his parents are Christian missionaries, Lee Yarbrough and Stacey Story. Actually, they had decided to make up their minds to stay back in Mexico and preach Christianity to the people. 

Thus, after their honeymoon in the North American country, they immigrated to Mexico. In addition to that, William Yarbrough is half American and half Mexican. Also, he is the third child among the four kids.

Introduction to Soccer

Like every athlete, William Yarbrough commenced playing at his early age. Indeed, he had a keen interest in the game and was often playing along with his siblings in his house’s backyard. 

As a six-year-old, he was already involved with the youth team, Gallos de Aguascalientes.

Apparently, he was with the team for nearly a decade, and later in 2005, the Under-17 squad of C.F. Pachuca invited him to the team.

However, it was only after five years; he joined the senior team of Pachuca in 2010, as he played for their youth team. Initially, he started his senior team’s career with the loan to Jaibos Tampico Madero.

During his tenure, he appeared in the Liga Premier de México 2010–2011 season. The following year, he was again loaned to Titanes Tulancingo. 

León

At first, Yarbrough featured Leon in loan while being with Pachuca. He only played in the first round of the Copa MX Apertura against Dorados de Sinaloa during his loan phase.

Following it, he started the game for the first time during the 2013 Clausura tournament.

With the end of the season, he moved to Leon as a starting goalkeeper, as he contributed to bag two Liga MX titles.

Right then, he also led all the Liga MX goalkeepers in both saves and clean sheets. However, the smooth ride produced a bump when Leon acquired Rodolfo Cota in 2018. 

From then, he had few appearances; four matches in 2018 and two in 2019.

Colorado Rapids

Altogether, he was later loaned to MLS side Colorado Rapids for a year. All in all, in 2021, he starred permanently in the team on a 3-year deal.

Looking back to his loan days in Rapids, he had his debut over Sporting Kansas City at the MLS is Back Tournament.

During his tenure, William led the team to win over Real Salt Lake, which claimed the Rocky Mountain Cup.

Yarbrough’s Move From MX to MLS

Indeed, when Yarbrough was moved from MX to MLS, many questioned why the club transferred him. However, Yarbrough had opened up, stating that it was his decision. 

Apparently, he had bagged eight successful seasons in Mexico with Club Leon during his MX period, including two Liga MX titles. Following it, Yarbrough told the media that he was ready to shift to the northern side and play for it. 

Thus, when the thought or passion for playing for MLS first stroke him, he wanted to continue it. With the commencement in MLS, he watched four or five games a weekend.

International Career 

As we all know, William Yarbrough has dual citizenship, and thus, it makes him eligible to feature for both the Mexican and American teams. For his international career, William was first called up for the Mexico national under-20 football team. 

Back then, William kept the Mexican Federation’s offer low and went for the U.S. national team. Well, he had his debut with the United States national team in 2015 on the bench over Denmark. 

After his debut, William was the substitute for Nick Rimando during the match against Switzerland. Later, he also appeared in the game over Mexico and New Zealand.
